Sebastiano Cognolato, aka Yae, studied Composition at the Conservatorio GiuseppeVerdi in Milan and at the Conservatorio F.A. Bonporti in Trento. First price or honorable mention in several music competitions (Milano/Milhaud
Festival, Milan, Pomeriggi Musicali, 1994. Carlo Mosso Competition,
Turin, 1996; U.S.A. Songwriting Competion 2002), his music is performed all over the world by many musicians and ensembles, among wich: Arena di Verona Orchestra, Cantelli Orchestra, Czech National Symphony Orchestra, Piemonte Youth Orchestra, Sonata Island Ensemble, Les Divertissements Duo, Arkè Quartet, Harp&Piano Duo, Luisa Prandina, Antonella Ruggiero, Cristina Zavalloni, Lorena Portalupi; his music has also been part of several movie's soundtracks: among them Liberate i Pesci by the Italian director Cristina Comencini (1999), Zhivago starring Keira Knightley and Sam Neill (2002), La Banda dei Babbi Natale starring the famous Italian comedians Aldo Giovanni and Giacomo (2010).
He has composed two operas: Parallelo Zero (2000), starring the Italian pop singer Antonella Ruggiero, premiered by the Piccolo teatro di Milano; Ulisse Innamorato (2000), a one act opera by the Fondazione Arena di Verona.
Among his most recent works Sweet City Suite, a Disklavier piano installation staged in 2012 at the Museo del '900 in Milan; #10 Pianos Street, a concert-installation composed with ten multicolored pianos hosted in 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2016 at the prestigious Modern Art Gallery in Milan, in the Pietà Rondanini Museum Opening Ceremony, in the Expo in Città Opening Ceremony and in the Nuova Darsena Opening Ceremony, and in 2017 in the Brera Design Week in Milan; 4.a.l., a combinatorial concert for four pianos hosted in 2014 in the Brain Piano Project at Piano City Milano; Butterflies, a suite for piano and butterflies hosted for the first time in October 2015 at Milan Green City; Sgiansa - a jail opera premiered in 2018 at the teatro Bruno Munari in Milan.
