Ultramarine

On Thursday afternoon, Sebastiano Cognolato's Ultramarine, inspired by poems of Raymond Carver, reflected the simplicity of Carver's poems. A quiet ostinato figure bookends this piece. As this figure matures into scalar passages, it expands outward from midrange into upper and bass registers, settling into distinct bass lines that support the gentle undulations as they return. The premiere was given by Lurana Lubello, who performed with fluidic finesse.
