He completed his academic studies at the Conservatories of Milan and Trento, and distinguished himself with victories and commendations in several national and international competitions, including Pomeriggi Musicali di Milano 1994, Carlo Mosso 1996, and the U.S.A. Songwriting Competition 2002. He was an assistant to Ludovico Einaudi and Lorenzo Ferrero.
His music has been performed by ensembles such as I Virtuosi del Teatro alla Scala, the Milan Symphony Orchestra, the Czech National Symphony Orchestra, the Verona Arena Orchestra, the Cantelli Orchestra, the Borciani Quartet, Intende Voci Chorus, Ensemble Musicamorfosi, and the ensemble Esecutori di Metallo su Carta. Among the soloists and conductors he has worked with are Luisa Prandina, Cristina Zavalloni, Antonella Ruggiero, Valentina Coladonato, Blagoj Nacoski, Mirko Guadagnini, Luca Schieppati, Carlo Cantini, Fernanda Damiano, Lorena Portalupi, Marcello Corti, Francesco Muraca, and Giampaolo Maria Bisanti. He has also collaborated extensively with the world of cinema and television, including projects like Liberate i Pesci by Cristina Comencini (1999), Zhivago with Keira Knightley and Sam Neill (2002), and La Banda dei Babbi Natale with Aldo Giovanni and Giacomo (2010).
In the spring of 2024, as part of the “Una Rete di Note” series, Sis Apis (a reflection on the world of bees as a metaphor for good practices) premiered, inspired by the writings and speeches of Liliana Segre. During the same event, he also curated the concert Sognatrici, Sognatori, featuring I Virtuosi del Teatro alla Scala performing his piece Rocky Dreamers, dedicated to Senator Segre, who was present in the audience, and accompanied the children’s chorus in the Sis Apis anthem flashmob in her honor.
In 2023, Serate Musicali di Milano and Teatro del Buratto organized the Allegro Sostenibile series, entirely dedicated to his works related to sustainability in music.
For theater, he has composed two operas: Parallelo Zero (2000), featuring Antonella Ruggiero, produced and staged by Piccolo Teatro di Milano, and Ulisse Innamorato (2000), produced and staged by the Arena di Verona Foundation. His most recent theatrical work is Requiem Mediterraneo, a scenic mass dedicated to migrants who lose their lives attempting to reach European shores, staged by Triennale Teatro Milano in 2021. His recent works favor the form of participatory opera, which can be presented as a concert or with scenes and actions. These participatory works, which blend melodrama, pop concerts, and flashmobs, actively involve the audience: some arias are sung by the entire audience, others involve audience participation through actions, object exchanges, dancing, or playing. Notable works in this format include Sis Apis, SI DO REcycle, Spaghetti!, and Sinfonia Casalinga.
“Notte,” an aria from Parallelo Zero, was recorded by Antonella Ruggiero, included in her album Sacrarmonia – Luna Crescente, and performed live by the singer for an extended period. In 2018, the orchestral version of the song was featured in the compilation Quando facevo la cantante, and in 2019 a new version for organ and harp was performed by Antonella Ruggiero in Milan’s Duomo at the European Day of the Righteous concert.
His most recent works are characterized by a strong focus on socially relevant themes such as sustainability, inequality, the prison system, and immigration, as well as a commitment to education. His scores are rich with extramusical elements, featuring aleatory techniques, improvisation, and audience interaction. Some of these works include:
Spaghetti!, a table concert for choir and string orchestra dedicated to sustainability in the food industry, staged during the Allegro Sostenibile series at the Teatro Bruno Munari in Milan.
